Good Evening CES Families Coming Up

Class Field Trip Tshirt Orders Due September 29th!

Important Change this Year!!!!

We will not be selling different color class t-shirts for field trips. The blue youth shirt seen at the top of the form sent home  (and attached) will be used SCHOOL-WIDE for field trips and spirit days. Order large enough and your child should get a couple of years wear out of them. The quality is excellent!!
There will not be a deadline extension for ordering so we have these shirts ready to support our earliest scheduled school trips.  Checks should be made payable to Central Elementary PTA. This is a fundraiser and all proceeds go to the CES PTA.
Don’t forget to order your matching spiritwear!

Click HERE to view what we have to offer this year.  Paper copies went home in backpack mail last week.

PTA/PTO Q and A
Are you free for an hour this Thursday evening?  Stop by for an informal PTA vs. PTA Q and A in the CES cafeteria from 6:15-7:15 p.m.  PTA officers and Jim McGee, a CES dad and our pro bono legal counsel, will be available for questions and conversation.  Don’t forget!  We vote on whether or not to become a PTO on October 2nd!

Wondering Why a PTO?

CES has been a PTA for many years, and these years have been great for the school community.  Recently, the PTA Executive Board has come to believe that leaving the PTA and becoming a PTO could be EVEN BETTER for our school community – even better for students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

Why should we consider a change, you wonder?  (Because we did too.)  With a PTA, we have been a part of a national organization.  The dues we pay to the organization pays for advocacy and lobbying efforts at the state and federal government levels.  We pay for staff, office space, and all of the resources involved with a large-scale advocacy and lobbing operation.  We have been bound by the  by-laws of the Maryland PTA, and, to reiterate, we have paid state and national membership dues.

With a PTO, we could be our own organization.  Would we still be bound and governed by bylaws and financial oversight?  Yes, absolutely.  But we would write and you, our general membership, would approve those by-laws, which could address more issues of local governance rather than so much required by the state organization. Because a CES PTO is governed by and concerned with CES ONLY,  we would pay no state or national membership dues – which means every last penny raised for CES PTO stays at CES and benefits your children (and teachers, administrators, and YOU) directly.

The links below have been helpful to the Executive Board as we have researched the possibility of becoming a PTO.  Please review them, consider, and come to Back to School Night and subsequent informational meetings to ask questions and learn more.  As always, thank you for being a part of the amazing, unique, and incredibly supportive Central Elementary School community.

*With our meeting on October 2 coming up – when we will vote on whether to move to being a PTO instead of a PTA – PLEASE DO NOT FILL OUT NOR RETURN THE PTA MEMBERSHIP FORMS that came home in backpack mail today.  Just recycle those – we’re sorry for our administrative blunder in sending them home.  PLEASE JOIN US at Back to School Night  on September 19, to learn about becoming a PTO, and then on October 2 to participate in the vote.
